#GivingTuesdayNow – Give to Syrian Refugees Making a Difference During COVID-19

May 8, 2020 in Turkey

Refugee Protection International with  Kids Paradise are rapidly expanding a refugee self-reliance project to combat the devastating impact of COVID-19 on health and livelihoods in southern Turkey. This community-led project is training vulnerable Syrian mothers to produce soap from home during the partial lockdown. Up to 5,000 refugees in Antakya and Reyhanli will receive free soap produced by the trained women and COVID-19 information. During this period of the project, trainees will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms, observe social distancing, and receive local face masks and gloves. To support livelihoods, the women will also receive reusable soap production kits, emergency social stipends, and product advertising among local business and the public. Earlier this month, Turkey had the fastest rising COVID-19 infection rate and now ranks 7th globally for its number of confirmed cases, surpassing Iran (Data: JHU).

This project is critical as the World Food Program and World Bank put out dire warnings this week about the potential economic catastrophe for the global poor. We know that many of you face daunting challenges in your own communities. Thank you for your continued compassion.
